Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton holds an early edge in the March 17 Democratic Senate primary to succeed Sen. Dick Durbin, bolstered by Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s multimillion‑dollar backing even as Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi outraises the field and large crypto‑ and outside PACs flood the race; the leading Democrats sharply differ on ICE and DHS policy and some Black leaders warn Stratton and Rep. Robin Kelly could split the Black vote.
Former Illinois Republican Party chair Don Tracy won the GOP nomination, running as a centrist focused on lowering living costs and drawing on his experience as a lawyer and former Illinois Gaming Board chair, and will face the Democratic nominee in November.
