Democrat Patty García has effectively secured the party’s nomination for Illinois’ 4th Congressional District after incumbent Rep. Jesús "Chuy" García, her former boss, announced two days after the filing deadline that he would not seek re‑election, leaving her unopposed on the primary ballot in one of the country’s safest Democratic, heavily Hispanic seats around Chicago.
